Annual Symposium

The Emerging Markets Program Annual Symposium takes place each year in April.  This event merges two key initiatives of the Emerging Markets Program, the Clifton Wharton Emerging Markets Award and the SMART Program poster presentations, and also provides a forum for reflections and discussions on global engagement.

The Wharton Award features a presentation of the Dr. Clifton Wharton, Jr. Emerging Markets Award, which is given to an individual who has made a profound impact on low-income communities through his/her work on public policy, private strategy, or philanthropic investments.

The SMART Student Poster Session showcases the SMART project posters to the Cornell community and beyond. This is a unique opportunity for students to share what they learned and the outcomes of their field research work, carried out during the Winter Session each year.  The posters are first displayed in the lobby of Mann Library and then later moved to the event location.  Students are given the opportunity to discuss their work in detail, followed by a Q&A session with the audience.
